New York Fashion Week: My Edit (pt.1)

I had originally planned to do a post a day on my favourite NYFW shows but due too work commitments and a trans-seasonal cold (ergh!) unfortunately i couldn't  - but here's my edit of the NYFW shows and my pick of my favourite (and not so favourite) trends, patterns and looks... ooh is it spring yet?

Prabal Gurung:
who was an unknown to the masses until Kate Middleton wore one of his dresses on her tour of the Far East but SJP & Mila Kunis have been fans of his for a while and we can all see why....

Love the colours & pattern.
Looks like short suits are here to stay people, and who will wear the bottom dress on the red carpet? Its darling!

Alexander Wang:
although the show was stolen by his adorable little niece (though I do think its a little wrong a girl of three wearing leather - just me?!) and the return of Liberty Ross after the Kirsten Stewart affair.

Sport Luxe with a lot of laser cutting, leather, lovely sleeves and monochrome.
It's a good collection from AW - but I feel like I have seen it all before? I wouldn't say no to the sandals though!

 3.1 Phillip Lim:
Um... not a collection for me - fluro pink denim dungarees are not for me - but for the street stylish this is their inspiration board for SS13.

Thakoon:

Patterns of hummingbirds and big beautiful blooms - peplums and lovely skirt lengths.
Its a beautiful collection of loveliness, I just love that middle dress!!

Tory Burch:
Ethnic embellishment and a beautiful colours - this is probably one of my favourite collections - it all looks so wearable with a hint of Isabel Marant!

If there isn't a high street version of this shirt - i'm going to attempt to make my own!
I love the little beaded line at the front! SO lovely!!!

Oscar De La Renta:
Pink & turquoise, texture & sparkle: So kitsch it hurts!

Can't wait to see this dress on the red carpet though it will clash clash clash in such a good way!!

Favourite: Kate Spade

Anything by Kate Spade is so coveted right now, not only are her designs super girlie cute, but she has now teamed up with the new it muse, Garance Dore to create this beautiful, beautiful (so beautiful i said it twice) collaboration.

With lovely illustrations and gorgeous fonts used on blouses, sweats and pouches we can all have a little piece of Kate Spade & Garance Dore.

My pick of the bunch...
Studio Pull Over

Rainey dress
Laura Top

My absolute fave: Georgie Pouch

Available at Kate Spade

Lusting After....

The Balenciaga Pumpkin bag.

I am never going to be able to afford it - especially with my frugal September/ October coming up shortly, but that doesnt stop me looking and lusting after this beauty of a bag...

Design by the iconic Grace Coddington, and inspiration taken from her beloved cat Pumpkin, its on the fashionista want list and my lust list!
I dont particularly love cats - but the illustrations are so cute i cant help but want, and it has that Balenciaga twist with the simple handle and zip pocket.

The Colour Orange?

I don't know about anyone else but go through little phases of becoming obsessed with a particular colour.

At the moment it's orange, and I have bought or worn numerous things in the last couple of days which are orange, and I had no idea why - I thought it may have been because of the changes in the seasons and the autumnal feel beginning in the UK with cooler mornings and darker nights.

New Essie Nail Polish!

New Blogger Journal i choose this week! To write notes, ideas and snippets!

My outfit today - Neon Orange Lace from Topshop!

Another new Essie Nail Polish.

However after looking into the meaning of the colour orange (it's so interesting looking up colour meanings - do it!) It seems my subconscious is actually telling me something....

1) It's a power colour.
I've been trying to prove my worth at work and make everyone understand how important I am (I'm not blowing my trumpet here - I just know if I wasn't there it would all fall down and they need to understand that ! Work moan over - sorry guys!!)

2)Its a healing colour.
I have been struck down with the trans-seasonal cold & lurgy this week.

3) it stimulates enthusiasm & creativity.
All work & blog related!

4) finally it was supposedly Lady luck's colour.
The boy and I have been saving for a house deposit for the last four years! Finally its looking like we are nearly there and we can maybe start looking at real life houses!!! :)

so it seems there is a lot more to the colours we choose on a daily basis that we give ourselves credit for!
If anyone looks into the meaning of their of the moment colour please do share i'd love to hear what you colour says about you!!

MK & Longchamp - An eBay find!

I love pattern, colour and fabulous prints.

Anyone that follows me on Instagram (plug: thefrugalyetfabulouslife - find me!) will know this from my collection of patterned trousers and silk shirts, and becuase of this one of my most favourite designers is Mary Katrantzou.
I adore the brand because of her love for a fabulous print, pattern and bold & beautiful colour palettes.

It was announced only a couple of days ago (4/9/2012) that she will be up against Stella McCartney and Christopher Kane for the British Fashion Council's Designer of the Year such an achievement for someone that only won the BFC's Emerging Talent of the Year in 2011, it's greatly deserved for a wonderful gorgeous brand!

Her pieces, for obvious reasons, are coveted by many and highly sought after: her Topshop collaboration was one of the High Streets quickest sell outs!
I was looking on eBay to see if I could find anything from the Topshop collection when I came across a Mary Katrantzou for Longchamp bag.

I have always thought about getting a Longchamp to chuck in my stuff that doesn't fit in my Mulberry, but I find their standard bags a bit blah and so Cheltenham Ladies College - I walk past it everyday and all the girls have one!

I decided to go for it and won the bag (yay!) then it arrived in the post (yay!) and looked rather untouched!
I really do find it quiet lovely and its a piece of patterned loveliness!

I did buy this for practical reasons (to take on the plane with me to Oslo!) and I think I have found the perfect vessel for all my extra jumpers, tees and shoes.

I know the collaboration came out earlier this year and with Longchamp's newer collaboration with Jeremy Scott and his oh so cool rainbow keyboard print seen in the crux of Rihanna's arm I know its not the most coveted any more, but it really do think its something lovely!
I still smile at the oriental inspired pattern and super strength colours!

Its not an everyday bag by all means (there are no pockets - every bag should have pockets!!)  but its a wonderful holder perfect for weekends away and excess baggage.
Most of all it's my own little piece of MK.

Planning a trip to London on Saturday...

I love looking for things to go and do, see and be at in London! I'm only going for the day but going on my own which means I can walk at my own speedy pace and fit in everything i want to do!

Here's my list so far...

1) visit the V&A and their ball gown exhibition heard its wonderful! and I am just in love with the V&A.

2) go to Topshop and buy a Louise Gray glittery nail polish. Preferably the blue one.

3) eat at Leon. Nothing more needs to be said.

4) go to Liberty to purchase a Diptyque present most deserved!

That's all for now, any other ideas youd like to share would be fabulous and muchly considered.

Thanks X

Literary happiness...

Whilst lots of fashionistas are jumping on the comic book trend brought to you by Phillip Lim 3.1 and Marcus Lupfer - unfortunately now Primark are on board (not that there is anything wrong with Primark but when you see a 50 year old granny wearing a pink & black "pow" jumper like i did today I'm out!!) I however want to set a different literary trent and focus on the classics.

Ever since the exquisite Olympia La Tan book clutches were seen all over the red carpet I have been hunting all over for classic book covers on clothes.

If anyone would like to buy me either of these I would be eternally grateful?

I have recently become massively obsessed with F. Scott Fitzgerald classic The Great Gatsby after never reading it at school (it was a Street Car Named Desire for me of the American Classics!) I have absolutely fallen head over heels for the story, characters and the era.

So browsing the net, as you, do I came across the most amazing sweat shirt on Truffle Shuffle, a site famed for it's use of famous imagery on tees, sweats and hoodies... And there was one with the original first edition cover of The Great Gatsby and I had to have it. It's by a company called Out Of Print and their tees and sweatshirts have the first edition illustrations on the front; they have Pride & Prejudice, The Wizard of Oz and Wuthering Heights to name but a few.

It is the most wonderful marled blue and such lovely quality... I have a feeling I will be wearing this a lot on dress down days!! I have had such lovely comments about it and really want to buy another one - I kinda really love the Pride & Prejudice one!! Next pay day maybe!!

My only hope is that in 70 years time people aren't doing the same and finding 50 shades emblazoned on a sweatshirt - book and their covers aren't quiet what they used to be....
